What is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide, seven amino acids long, with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It was first described in the late 1980s. The first four residues come from the 4-10 segment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and the Pro-Gly-Pro tail at the end was added to slow down enzyme breakdown.
The free acid has the formula C37H51N9O10S and a molar mass of about 813.93 g/mol. The acetate salt, which is how it’s usually supplied, is about 826.92 g/mol. The Pro-Gly-Pro ending is a known trick in peptide chemistry because prolyl endopeptidases have a hard time cutting it.

How to store Semax
