What is glutathione?
Reduced glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide, gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine, with the formula C10H17N3O6S and a weight of about 307.33 g/mol. In most cells it’s the most common small thiol molecule.
It’s built in an odd way for a peptide. The glutamate links to cysteine through its side-chain carboxyl, not the usual alpha bond. That’s why cells make it with two dedicated enzymes and not on the ribosome, and it’s also why most aminopeptidases can’t cut it. The thiol on cysteine is the reactive part of the molecule.

How to store glutathione
Keep it sealed and refrigerated at 2 to 8 °C. The free thiol oxidizes when it’s exposed to air and moisture, so close the vial right away.
Most labs reconstitute with Research Water, which is sterile-filtered water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol.
When it’s time to reconstitute, let the vial come to room temperature first. Add the solvent slowly down the inside wall of the vial so it doesn’t hit the powder directly, then swirl gently until the liquid is clear. Don’t shake it. Write the date on the label so you know how long it’s been mixed.
