IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is an 83-amino-acid recombinant analog of human insulin-like growth factor 1, made in E. coli. Native IGF-1 is 70 residues. LR3 differs in two ways. Position 3 has an arginine in place of glutamate (that’s the “R3”), and there’s a 13-residue extension at the front left over from the fusion system it was first made in (that’s the “Long”).
Its formula is C400H619N111O115S9 and it weighs about 9,111.5 g/mol with its three disulfide bonds formed. A lot of listings print 9,117.6, which is the mass of the unfolded chain, and some print CAS 946870-92-4, which doesn’t match. The right CAS is 143045-27-6.

In the original papers (Francis et al. and King et al., Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, 1992), the Arg3 change cut binding to IGF-binding proteins by more than a thousandfold, while receptor binding dropped only slightly. How to store IGF-1 LR3
Keep the vial refrigerated at 36 to 46 °F (2 to 8 °C), or frozen for longer storage. Don’t freeze and thaw it over and over once it’s reconstituted.
Most labs reconstitute with Research Water, which is sterile-filtered water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol.
When it’s time to reconstitute, let the vial come to room temperature first. Add the solvent slowly down the inside wall of the vial so it doesn’t hit the powder directly, then swirl gently until the liquid is clear. Don’t shake it. Write the date on the label so you know how long it’s been mixed.
